Micromosaics are made from tiny glass fragments called tesserae~ Derived from Latin, tesserae refers to materials such as glass, marble, gemstones or rectangular stones used to create miniature mosaics. Sometimes micro-mosaics also use elements of enamel. This kind of colorful enamel is called smalto ~ the enamel is drawn into a linear shape, and after cooling, it is cut into hundreds of tiny cubes, which are placed on a copper or gold base.
